POWDER MAGAZINE DESTROYED
TWENTY-ONE KILLED AND HUNDREDS INJUR ED.
Received sth, 5.15 p.m. Pekin, May 4.
An explosion of a gunpowder magazine at Canton killed 21 and injured hundreds. Two hundred feet of the city walls was destroyed along with fifteen dwellings. A house was unroofed a mile distant. The European quarter was shaken bv the terrific explosion.
