A serious accident occurred on the lirooklyn section of the city tramways .his evening, resulting in the death of Mrs. Hull, of Murchison, and the inllie;ion of injuries on her husband, Thomas Hell, the molorman, John iiae, and the •onductor, Arthur Perkins. The lirooklyn lines leaves Upper Willis street at the foot of Nairn street, and proceeds over ,\ sharp incline to the suliurlian area on the hill-top, southward of the eily. While descending this incline, one of the big new palace cars left the track at 11 point near the fool of Nairn street plantation, and after travelling about 13 yards, in course of which Ihe undercarriage was ripped oil', toppled over an embankment, which at this point is about live feet in height. Mrs. \M\ was, it is supposed from (he nature of her injuries, killed outright, but it was over an hour before her body could be taken from under the ear, which is of grc,it weight, and could only be shifted by the use of powerful jacks. Her husband was I slightly injured, and was removed to a neighboring house. line and Perkins were taken to the hospital suffering from cuts and contusions. Mr. and Mrs. licll were returning to their home from t'hristchureh and other places in the .South. They had taken a trip in the ear to view the city from lirooklyn Heights. For some time after the Brooklyn section was opened for traffic the City Council only had a permit to run what are known as box ears, the lightest ears on the city tracks up this incline, and only twenty-four people were allowed to ride each trip. Traffic, however, increased so much that the Public Works Department lately, after making tests, gave a permit for heavier ears to run on the section. The palace cars, one of which came to grief, each carry sixty passengers. How the mishap • occurred is not known, but it is supposed that the car van away from the brakes.
