WUAKGANMOMONA.
-Mr Xcwon King held a sale here last week, which was well patronised, some 2000 head of cattle being yarded. The sale was very muv's-iHI. and good prices wen- realised.
The settlers of Whangainoinoii.i have had a concrete tsheep dip (made ol burnt papa) completed. It was tested this week, and proved most siieeessi'u!. Mr Budge, stock inspector, was pre . nt, and was more than satisfied, and he intends to recommend dips built on similar lines to the Government. Owing to wet. weather, the contractors for the Stratford County Council papa burning have had to knock off. That means that it will not be completed until nt-sl season.
-Mr Jackson has just finished the immetalled portion at the foot of the saddle. this w ill be good news for settlers and visitors alike, as it was undoubtedly the worst part of the road between Stratford and Whangamomniia in winter. To give you an idea of the state of th.> road at present. 1 might mention (hat Mr J. Hewer, the popular coach proprietor, was actually bumped off his seat this week. The front wheel of the coach passed over his hand, but luckily Mr Hewer was imt hurt. Still it might have been worse.
The first football match for Mr I'. J. White's "lioyal Mail" Cup was played oil Saturday between Whanga. and K.olmralahi, Whangamomona winning bv 12 points to nil. The game was fast from the start, and Kohuratahi struggled gamely to the end. The Whanga. forwards completely walked over their opponents. 28/4/07.
rUXiWIIAKAU.
: The Puniwhaknu farmers held their 'animal picnic ami sports ou the 20th of April. The weather was very unsettled in the early part of the day, but it cleared up fine in the afternoon. After ivfreshinemits had been handed round by the ladies, sports were started. Although the wood was very tough, some good records were put up in the woodchopping events. In the evening a dance was held in the Puniwhakiiu hall, when about 40 couples took the floor. Messrs Young and Waswo acted as Jl.'sC'., and carried out their duties in a most satisfactory manner. ! Songs were rendered bv -Misses fjaskit. Worthington, Nally, ' Murphy, and Messrs Jones and Radcliffe Mr P. Houligan gave a step dance. The music was suppied by Miss L. Schodroski, of Stratford. Extras were plaved by Miss Young and .Messrs Wasno and Crighton, and Mr Crosby lent his piano for the occasion.
