COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING. I T London, April 25. Mr. W. M. Hughes, who represented Australia on the Xavigation Conference, in the presence of many high military and naval authorities, Lord Roberts presiding, unfolded his views ou compti: sory training of adults for defence purposes.
| MR. BOTHA'S PROPOSAL. London, April 23. Mr. Botha, in an interview, described the Standard's story respectiii" the Transvaal defence force as ridiculous, adding that "oiir aim is to establish an' army for the 'defence of the whole of South Africa, wherein Dutch and British will serve side by side. It is no longci a question of Dutch or English. We are one people, with one ambition, and one aim. and we ought to be called South Africans."
