Per Press Association. Christeliurch, April 20. The inquest was resumed this afternoon touching the death of Alfred ltdIyer, who was arrested on Sunday for child murder, and who was found in his cell in an unconscious condition on Monday afternoon, and died at the hospital later in the evening. Evidence was given tli.it Ueliyer, while in the lockup, had been given the contents of a phial which had lieou taken away from him with his other property when lie was searched on being arrested. The bottle was lonnd to contain fragments of morphia, and morphia was also discovered in the stomach. A veidiet was returned that death was due to morphia, taken by the accused while in a slntc of iuMlllltV.
