NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL
The Borough Council held its adjourned meeting last night. Present: His Worship the Major and Crs. Boon, liellringer, Coleman, A. A. Vikett W' A. Collis, C. T. Mills, J. C. Morev, H. R. Cattley, and G. \V. Browne. ' Crs. Boon, Coleman. Mills and Pikctt made the usual declaration before takin" their seats " WESTERN PARK. Mr F. P. Corkill, secretary to the .Sehool Commissioners, asked when the Council intended to earry out its undertaking with regard to the Cutlichl road frontage of sections 332 and 358. Keferred to the Works Committee. A COMPLAINT. Mr John Kelly complained that a Norfolk Island pine growing on the road in front of his house in Autei'e street Vitrect was a nuisance, on account, of cones and parts of leaves falling on tile garden and the roof of 'lis house. Jf uprooted l>y wind would do great damage, to the house.—Keferred to the foreman. RAILWAY DOTATION. Air C. Holm Diss, iJistrict Railway Engineer, wrote that It would greatly facilitate the construction of bridge abutment at Eliot street if access across the deviation line could be temporarily closed for about a fortnight.—Beferreil to the incoming Works Committee. FOREMAN'S REPORT. The foreman delivered his usual report on street works undertaken since last report. He mentioned that he was unable to complete the Currie street metalling owing to a breakdown in the crusher. He recommended an alteration in the crusher elevator, which now caused too much waste. The cost of laying a javrah crossing at the, corner of Devon and Brougham streets, 20ft by lift, half-width oi Devon street, was £l7 10s. and half width of Brougham street .€l3 18s 3d.—The report was receive.!, and the clause relating to the jarrah crossing was referred to the incoming Works Committee. ELECTRIC LIGHT. The Electric Eight v. niuinitt:-c recommended: That the Rev. Mr Brooke be permitted to cm down the trees in Lemon street at the rear of the distributing station; that, the llaine arc lamps be returned after the next Council ineejng; that the electric light main lie extended in Devon street from Cutlield road to Belt road (estimated cost tjO): that the Estimates Committee be recommended to increase W. Hewlett's .salary to £2 per week; that Mr Woderspoou's resignation be accepted; that the electrical engineer furnish him with a reference; that the electrical enirineir be authorise,! to make arrangements to temporarily filling the vacancy.—The clause dealing with the extension of the main was deleted, and the matter of Mr liowletfs salary referred • to the incoming Committee. r DRAINAGE. { .
