DISASTEROUS FIRE.
GALLANT WORK OF HREMEN. Perth, April 25. The most disastrous lire in the history of the city completely gutted Handover and Company's large tour-storey haiilware establishment. It started in a cellar, amongst paint and benzine ,and Bpread with tremendoas rapidity. There was a heavy stock of explosives In the cellar. Half of the firemen attacked the flames, the lemaindcr entciifi" the explosives department singly, and secured parcels ol explosives and removed them to a place of safety. The work was dangerous owing to the explosion of cartridges. The fire raged for hours and the traffic in adjoining streets were suspended. White and Company's, and Maekay s drapery establishments were considerably damaged, and others slightly. Sandover and Co.'s insurances amounted to £40.034, but they state that sum does not represent anything like their to*- . . , The other premises were insme.l.
