WAITING ENTHUSIASTS FIGHT WITH THE POLICE. Two thousand hockey enthusjaats many of whom had stayed in the waiting line ail night with the thermometer at zero fought among thcnuelves and with the police in the morning for a chance to buy tickets to witness a game between the Ottawa and Montreal teams on a recent Saturday. A night messenger service agency had placed boys in the line to purchase tickets for customers but the police were obliged to pass the boys out over the heads of the crowd in a fainting condition.
Plate glass windows in the vicinity of the ticket office were forced in, and several people were injured in the crush. The police were unable to keep the mob under control, and decided that it would be unsafe to open the ticket office. The announcement was received with a howl pf rage, and when the crowd at last melted away the street was littered with crushed hats, lost rubber overshoes, and torn clothing.
