FINANCE COMMITTER The Finance Committee recommended the granting of the West End committee's reque.it for renewal of coke in the lilter beds of the septic tank and for a dock for the school; that the arcbi tect be instructed (o erect a new outollice at the Salisbury road teacher's residence; that the lioiird oiler Mr. Evans, late head teacher at Ngaire Ci 10s for the range installed by him in the residence; that the Huiakama committee be granted a new tank-stand and posts for "repairs to the fence, and that Mr. Kennedy be asked to supervise the report; to refer to the Inspector the Ksiliot.il committee's application for an enlargement of school buildings; that the Fif/.roy application referring to outolliees be referred to the architect for his report; that the architect, be instructed to grant a new tank and stand at the \Ynrea teacher's residence; that the Tongaporutu committee be inform .1 that the Hoard will supply fill posts for road frontage fence as requested, and that, the teacher's letter in reference to the state of the residence be referred to Mr. Faull to report upon; with regard to the distribution of the extra capitation giant of Cltill 15s lid among th„ various schools in the districts, the committee recommend that the distribution be based on the following scale:—To all schools of less than 25 average attendance, Is oV£d per capita; over 25 and under 51, 11 1 / 2 d per capita; over 50 and under 70, 10'/,d; over 75 and under 101, O'/.d; over 100 and under 120, S'/id; over 125 and under 151. 7'/«d; over 150 and under 201, <i'/ 3 d; over 200, (id.--Adopted. 'J'he action of the chairman and Mr. Tisch, in accepting Messrs. Boon Bros.' tender of ,€427 for the West End scliooi additions was confirmed. TRUANCY. Mr. Archie Hooker, truant inspector, reported on the work of the quarter. Jkenumerated thirty schools visited, including private and convent schools, lie had interviewed teachers and parents with a view of increasing attendance of children, with good results. Seventy final notices to parents had been posted, and he had prepared 22 summonses for the Stratford Court, 20 for Inglewooil, scleral for New Plymouth, and was preparing a number for Wait am and Opuiiake. He had been informed in mam eases that the children had been kept at home to assist iu harvesting, owing to scarcity of labor. The L'ruiti school commissioners up plied to have a. teacher's residence buiii at L'rnti. and pointed out that teachers had difliculty iu obtaining suitable lodging.—Mr. Fault supported the application. Mr. Kennedy followed in a similar strain, saying the whare occupied by the late teacher would not suit the pre sent teacher, an unmarried lady, who was desirous of having her sister to live with her.—The application will be forwarded to the Department. The Okato school committee asked for repairs to roof of residence, to supply material for a fence between the school grounds and the teacher's residence, to remove posting from windows, and to improve ventilation by making the windows made to open.—The architect will attend to the matters mentioned, the lioard will grant the sum of 25s for material, and the frosting of the windows was referred to the inspector for his report.
