FOOTBALL.
A very interesting and exciting game took place on the High School ground on Saturday. The match ended in a draw, there being no score, and was 1 witnessed by a large crowd. Of the two teams, the present boys had the best of the play, and on several occasions had hard luck in not scoring. The forwards of the present boys, although playing against u heavier team, played with -v great dash. Mr. Ward was the referee.
The Taranaki Union are this year enforcing the rule that all club secretaries must forward to the secretary of the union a list of all the financial members of the club before the end of May, and any club which (days an unfimiiieial member after that date will be reckoned to have lost the match in which such iinlinancial member played. The senior championship matches were commenced in Wellington on Saturday. Petone defeated Wellington by 33 to l\ Orietntal won from St. James by !) to 0, Poneke beat Melrose by U to 5, and Athletic defeated Old Boys by 30 to 11.
