Ijyne to express complete sympathy with preferential trade, including British proiluce lirought ill British ships from oversea Britain, in preference to foreign proiluce. The deputation emphasised the growing danger arising from the competition of foreign shipping engaged hi the Australian trade, and instanced the Herman lines and White Star, which wan owned liy' American linancers. It was staled that New Zealand's preference had already diverted much trade from Germany unil America to the United Kingdom, and it was hoped the Commonwealth's preference would yield even more far-reaching results.
