COAL CARRIERS' STRIKE.

As the result of alleged interference with men applying at the employers' bureau, strikers were compelled to" remove from the immediate vicinity, but when they were beyond the immediate influence of the police, applicants were subjected to the usual attention by pickets, and taunting and jeering by the crowd. Pickets were also cruising in the vicinity of vessels coaling in the harbor. The general manager of the North German Lloyds states that the company will be forced to get coal from other sources while the present uncertainty of labor conditions lasts, and during the past fortnight lutd bought 2000 toiufoutsideSydney and their freight and Islands steamers will coal there. Trouble is threatened between the Newcastle stevedores and the Coal Trimmers' Union owing to delay in coalin« a vessel. The stevedores assert there" is plenty of union labor available to do trimming, but the union refuses to enI large its membership sufficiently to cope with the increased trade.
