BENEFIT CONCERT.
Tile benelit concert given last evening at the Theatre Koynl could not have been held under more favorable conditions. The concert submitted was an excellent one, and the large audience most appreciative. The management was in most capable hand, and great credit is due to Messrs Ceo. Griffiths and W. Perry and all others who assisted to mako the alfair su enjoynbly and successful. Individually and collectively the performers
nil iui|uittcd themselves well, ami Hint there is no stint of tnli'ii ill and around New Plymouth was evidenced by the liberal rounds of applause that succeeded each item. The numbers given by the .Military Baud ami Perry's Orehestr.i were rendered almost, faultlessly, and were a treat to tile musical ear. Die cornet solo played by Mr Donovon left nothing to be desired, as did also the the duet by Messrs Cottier (clarionelte) and Donovan (cornet). Miss K. Murphy's soprano solos delighted the audience, while Miss Clarice. Buckniann, in her items, sang very sweetly and with excellent expression. Mr Fanner supplied the comic tems and his songs could not have been more mirth-provoking. He had to respond to several encores, and the more items he gave, the more did the audience demand. Mr Haslam is 'the possessor of a full-toned baritone voice, and was also in good singing form. The accompaniments, played by Miss Perry, Miss Buckma'nn and Mr Holding received full justice. The Piddie Pros', in their tumbling and acrobatic feats showed Iheniselves to .be pastmnsters, sonic of their items being decidedly clover. The following programme was submitted:— Xew Plymouth Military Baud, "Simple Aveu"; song, "Till Death," Miss K. Murphy (encored); selection, ''Paul Jones," Perry's Orchestra; comic song, "The (.! ood Old Deep Basoon," Mr Farmer (eneoreil); duet, '■Sainted Mother," Messrs R. Cottier (clarionettej and T. Donovan (cornet); song, "Voices o.f the Past," Miss Clarice Uuckniaim; song, "Bedouin Love Song," Mr Uaslani (encored); pyv.unids, Peddie Pros. After all interval the Military Panel played the pokla "Eoivption"; song, "My Curly-headed Babby," Miss Clarice BucUnmnn (encored); comic song, "J can\ come out to-day," Mr Fanner (encored); selection, "Mikado," Perry's Orchestra; •'•ong, "Peg Away." Mr Ifaslam; cornet solo, "The Lost Chord," Mr T. Donovan; song, "The Beating of my own Heart,'' Miss k. Murphy.
We understand between '£33 and £4O worth of tickets were sold altogether, and as the expenscse are light, there should be a good balance to hand over to the beneficiary.
