Members of the committee explained in connection with the excursion, thai the matter was in ihe hands of a sub cominiltee, and the members of (ha: committee attended. As to advertising tiie committee had no funds to expeiie, in that way, and the newspapers had been very good in giving free locals about the meeting, in addition to which there was the Education Board's usual notice. The chairman considered every member of the committee should have gone to Eltliam. And it was unfair to depend on the newspapers for free advertising. The report was adopted. When notninatons were, taken for a new committee, Mr. W. A. Collis, the retiring chairman, declined nomination. There were nominated 12 candidates, and an election resulted iu the return of Messrs. A. Avery, A. G. Outran. F. P. Corkill, F. W. Court, J. Grant, F. C Griffiths, G. Al. Kebbeil, ('!. 11. AlcGahcv, and Rev. S. S. Osborne. Alessrs. T. I'rethey, G. 11. Alaunder, and T. W. White, members of last year's committee, were the defeated candidates. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring committee, and a special vote to the chairman, Air. Collis, for his services iu the cause of education in the New Plymouth school district for main years past. At a meeting of the committee, held subsequently, Air. F. P. Corkill was elected chairman, Air. C, T. Alills clerk aud treasurer at the usual salary of .CM a year, and Rev. S. S. Osborne'the committee's representative on the Technical School Board for the year. The visiting committee for the mouth consists of Alessrs. Avery, Outran, anil Corkill, and arrangements were made so that each member would serve two months, so that there would always be on (he committee a member who had visited in the previous mouth. The committee will meet as heretofore, on the third Monday m the month at 7.30 p.m. FRANKLEY ROAD. The annual meeting of householders held at the. school-house on Monday evening, was well attended, and those present manifested a very keen interest in the proceedings. Air." 11. Okey presided, and read the annual report and balance-sheet, showing there had been a steady increase in the roll number and the attendance during the year. There were now seventy scholars'on the roll, with an average attendance of sixty three. List year the number on the roll was 08, with an average attendance of 40. The last examination was conducted by Air. Spencer, and all the scholars in Stand VI. gained certificates. The inspector expressed himself as pleased wilh the work done, and the general manners of the pupils. The report further stated that a class for the instruction for the boys in elementary agriculture had been slarlcd. and that Standards V. aud VI. bad taken advantage of-tlie classes at the Technical School now opened iu New Plymouth, the hoys receiving instruction ill woodwork and the girls in cookery. The general tone of tlufschuol continued good. The efficiency of the school spoke well for the energy disphived by tile headmaster. Mr. T. 11. Wiuli'eld, aiid his assistant. Aliss AleDerinid. The finances I were in a very satisfactory stale, there being a credit balance of I'D at the end of the year. The report was discussed at considerable length, and adopted. The following committee was elected: Alessrs. E. S. Allen, W. Ambury, Joseph Hooker, 11. Okey. E. N. L, Okey. C. V. Stead, and A. Watt. At a subsequent meeting of (he committee Mr. 11. Okey was elected chairman. WKNT END. The annual meeting of householders at West End was well attended, Air. J. B. Roy presiding. The chairman gave a lengthy report on the work of the year. The finances showed a credit balance of .CI!.), and the attendance a big advance, the average for the past quarter haviic been 304. Mrs. Howling wrote with reference to making (lie dinner hour fiom 12.30 (o 1.30 p.m., instead of from noon to one o'clock, to facilitte Ihe pupils' altcnd--ance at the Technical School. The meeting recommends the change. On the motion of Alessrs. Bacon and Deare, if was decided lo recommend to Ihe ineomiii" committee to approach the Education Board, asking for an cnliirgement of Ihe school grounds, and to request the board to change the hours of the midday recess. The following committee was elected:—Alessrs. 11. J. Gilbert. T, W. Francis, ,1. Johnston, Jacob Alaunder. R. Deare, 11. Gardiner,'!. Morrison. C. E. Seabrigbt. and J. AlcWhimiey. A volt of thanks to the chairman was carriee by acclamation. At a subsequent meet, ing of the committee Air. If. .1. Gilbert was re-elected chairman, and Air.
