RUAPEHU TROUBLED.

THERMAL ACTIVITY. Per Press Association. Auckland, April 22. The Taupe correspondent of the Star, telegraphing to-day, states that Rimpehu is not visible now,.through the heavv clouds which completely block the view', but it is evident that the lake in the ereatcr has been in active eruption, covering all sides with heavy coating of blucish grey mud and ash. A large avalanche of ice from the glaciers has been tumbling down the mountain sides with great noise, and ice on the. "skate" glacier is much broken about, evidently through the shaking of the mountain during the. period of the eruption. There has been a great deal of activity lately iu the spring round Tokaanu and a new geyser is giving splendid displays daily.
