CRICKET
London, April 19. 'At a meeting of the Essex County Club, Mr Green, the chairman, declared | that the importation of colonials was entirely against the spirit Of county cricket and unfair to home-bred players and to Australian cricket. Received 20tli, 7.55 p.m. Melbourne, April 20. The Board of Control further considered the question of financing au English team, and decided to fortvard the following cable to the Marylcboue Club. The board will allow Marylebone half the gross takings of the ground only, v illi a guarantee that such hall" shall equal i£lo,ooo. Received 22nd, 1.4(1 a.m. Melbourne, April 21. The Board of Control, in guaranteeing Marylebone £IO,OOO, was to some extent guided by the past. The expenses of Warner's team amounted to £9700, and as there was much unnecessary expense on that occasion admittedly entailed through the manager's want of Australian experience, it is considered the guarantee ought to prove satisfactory.
