VOLUNTEERING IN AUSTRALIA
DECLINING INTEREST. Received 20th, 1.18 a.m. Sydney, April 19. At the Commonwealth Easter encampments the attendance of milita was eighty-five and volunteers fiftythree per cent, of their strength. This indicates a seriously declining interest amongst volunteers. The Minister is considering offering further inducement to volunteers, also following the example of the Army Council iu En . land, by issuing a book of songs for use on the march and in camp.
