I'.UY SIIOKER TO BE THRASHED. Per' Press Association. t Dimedin, April 18. , A lad, under the age of lifteen years, \ was before the Police Court this morn- ' ing, charged with smoking cigarettes. The station sergeant said the boy evidently knew lie was doing wrong, for he ran away, and when caught he gave ' a wrong name. "Why did you do that';'' ' asked the .Magistrate, The boy replied: '• "JUecause I didn't want my mother to ' know." The station sergeant; said that ■ smoking by boys was becoming a very ' common practice. His Worship dis- ! charged the lad with a caution, on the ! understanding that his parents gave him a good thrashing.
