(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln your columns of the 1:1 th appears a letter signed '-Ratepayer," ip which it states Mr. Tate's praise of surfaceman Evetts' management of road work. Although Mr. Tate was chairman for one year, I do not think thai he saw much of Evetts or the road til her, or may lie he would have made an attempt to alter it. I believe it is generally considered the worst part of our country road, lie that as it may. it is not (he point 1 am writing about. With regard lo Kvetts' report at the. Council meeting, it was duly read, and in it he advised the lowering of the small tunnel at the Tn-puac deviation. In speaking on the report. I asked the chairman what control, if any, had Kvetts over Ihe said work, that'not being a county road. The answer was "Not nnv." That being the case, 1 protested against the report bring received, and considered if least a vellection on the engineer. The report was not further discussed, and a.-; for approving, Mr. Ilatepaycr, or disproving, I can assure you I said nothing ahonl it. Xow, if Mr. Ratepayer wishes to argue the point on countv matters I shall be only to pleased, but not iu print.—l am. etc.. ALFRED GEORGE.
