The steamer Albania, oil laden, from Sumatra, had a narrow escape from destruction by lire. While abreast of •lava two of tile Chinese crew entered the fore-peak with a naked light, ami a. ternlic explosion of naphtha gas fol lowed, causing a lire, which was onh prevented from reaching the hold when benzine was by the vigorous measures oi the crew. The Chines:' responsible wen shockingly burnl. and died.
