TARANAKI GARRISON BAND.
The Taranaki Garrison Rami held its annual meeting on Thursday evening, Bandmaster McConnell presiding. About twenty members attended. The balance-sheet showed (receipts C2S7 12s '.ld, and expenditure C 278 It-, with a credit of CS ISs '.ld. The committee's report stated that the year commenced with a credit of £101) Lis 7d, but, principally owing to the heavy contest expenses this had dwindled to £8 18s M. Concerts brought in £2o Ss sd, members' subscriptions .€ll 5s 9d, and honorary members' subscriptions £SO fls fid, a record. Contest expenses were £IOB 63 7d, for which they received nothing but experience, especially in the. inarching, where they threw away about £3O jby some members be- | ing "careless. Reference was made to the excellent and painstaking work of the bandmaster, and to the need for better order in the band-room. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. . Bandmaster McConnell presented Ms annual report. Bandsman Donovan complimented the conductor on the report and the good feeling existing between the memiieys and the bandmaster. The report was one which members should lie proud to hear from the head of the band. He suggested a little keener interest in band practice. The report was received. Mr N. Allen was re-elected secretary and treasurer, several members making verv flattering releiteiice (to the work! of that officer during the past year. One memjier stated his opinion that "the band should stick to the real O.K. while they had it." The. election of officers proceeded, as follows:—Bandmaster, Mr McConnell; librarian, Bandsman Coultbard; committee, Sergeant Handle}', Corporal Ooulthard, Bandsmen Donovon, Home, and Steele; assistant secretary. Bandsman Upton; custodian, Bandsman Roberts; auditors, Drum-Major Lister and Bandsman Roch. The chairman complimented the band on its good fortune in securing Mr faster as Drum-Major, and asked members to attend more strictly to drill practice.
At the bandmaster's request, he again undertook the duties of Drum-Major. The usual honoraria were voted to the bandmaster and secretary, and the salary of the bandmaster was increased by £lO a year. 'Votes of thanks were accorded to outgoing officers, the Press, to the volunteer companies that lent uniforms, and the bands that assisted with the loan of instruments and music, and to the Rifles for the free use of their orderly room.
