A clause regretting that the Government had not given labor better representation in the Legislative Council was witlubawn from the executive's report, the thief reason heing that, it was foolish to insert sueh a clause when the conference had repeatedly expressed itself against the continuance of the second Chamber.
At the meeting of the Trades and Labor Conference, resolutions to "re- | strict the importation of labor under contract'' was adopted, as against an amendment to "prohibit" such importation. It was resolved to recommend thai Inspectors of Awards be empowered to get au expert to assist where necessary. It was resolved that the State establish clotlioing and boot factories, (lour and woollen mills, butteries, ironworks, shipbuilding yards, and ruu its own coastal and shipping trade. It was agreed that the Government be asked to cancel the agreement with the company for the lease of the Parapara iron deposits, and that the State be asked to take control.
