From a capital start The Stream and Vanadium showed a little in front of Mooltan, Realm, and Garches. Wandin led at the mile. At the live furlong post Dyed Garments led by a length from Wandin. Approaching the straight, Realm showed out, and by the time the distance was reached was well clear of the field, Proceed coming fast, Wandin and Florence close up. The Australian Cup winner came on fud of running, winning uy a couple of lengths, Proceed finishing fast, a length and a half ahead of Florence. Wandin was fourth. Time, 3.2!).

Ascending the hill for the second time, Karawaba took the lead. The favorite refused to jump on the hill, and fell a long way behind. Karawaba increased his lead, and won by six lengths. Time, 5.47. The stewards declared it no race, owing to the barriers being raised, one of the starters breaking through. In the run off neither Rocky Glen nor Elderslie started. Sedan won bv two lengths. The weather was unfavorable for the opening of the Canterbury J.C. autumn meeting, .lust as the day's racing began heavy showers fell, and continued intermittently till half way through the afternoon. The going was consequently heavy, but the racing was fairly interesting, though the principal handicap event was won from end to end. The attendance was good, and speculation brisk, the amount invested being ,£18,221, in addition to £1704 on the double machine. Results:
