The river height at the bridge this morning is over, 211 feet above normal, this being the highest recorded for a number of vears. A telegram received i from Cromwell states thill Hie Alpine Consols dredge sank last night, and the river to-ilav was strewn with wreckage marked ••Consols." Nearly all the dredges have stopped in consequence of the high river. Auckland, April 1. About alio volunteers are taking part in Hie Easter manoeuvres, which are being held near Takapuna and the adjacent forts. Some useful work, including target practice by the artillery, took place on Friday, but Saturday's operations were on minor scale, a large number of (he men having to return to work. The church parade was held on Sunday. Proceedings terminated on Monday by a combined parade on the Takapuna racecourse. The annual tournament of the Audiland bowling tournament is being held. The Singles Championship was won by Rankin (Mount Eden Club), T.edingham (Auckland Club) being runner-up. Hotorua, March 30. All the geysers at Whakarewarewa were very active yesterday and to-day. The l'oliiuu geyser played three, times yesterday and twice to-day, on each occasion for fully an hour. It was a beautiful sight. Waikorokihi, Prince of Wales, and Kereru geysers are playing continuously. A large number of visitors are. staying in town. Uargiiville, April 1. A good coal outcrop was discovered peculiarly at Avooa, seventeen miles from TJargaville, and eight from the main river. A settler, H. What is believed to lie a record shipshipment of whisky from the Clj'.lo arrived in Auckland by the Morayshire yesterday. The shipment consisted 'of 20000 cases, each containing a dozen bottles, besides 1000 casks. The shipment is for ill parts of New Zealand. It is stated to exceed in point of bulk the 27,000 cases once shipped on a. Clan liner at Glasgow. The Morayshire, from Hie West Coa-t of England ports and Capetown, brong~.it a batch of 'immigrants f<i)oin Britain Auckland, and tile balance for Wellington and South. The University tournament was continued yesterday,, when the athletic championships were decided. Gillray (Otago) beat the previous record for the long jump by 12 inches, lie covered 21ft llin. T. N. It is understood that Mr Harold Beuuchamp, head of the firm of W. M.
