(From Our Own Oorerspoiiuents.) PUXiWiIAKAU. The Puniwhakau animal school picnic and sports were held on Wednesday, the 2'tth. The weather was everything that could be desired, and a most enjovable day was spent. The refreshments were provided by the ladies, who carried out their part of the arrangements in a most satisfactory manner. After refreshments had been handed round, games and races were iudulged in. The following are the results of the races:— 410 yds Handicap: K Foley, scr ]• 11 Hedge, scr, >; T. Foley, lovds, 3. Won easily. Single Ladies' Race: .Miss F. Black. 1. C. Lchmaim 2, A. 100 yds Handicap: If. Worthingtou "yds, and W. Foley. 3yds, (load heat: J-. linker, sit., 2; T. Planning, G'yds, :(. A dance was held in the evening, when about 40 couples look the floor. Mr. W. Waswo efficiently carried out the duties of M.C. Wongs were rendered l.y Mrs Wutchorn, Messrs. Kadclilfo. Wooden, Waswo, McKenzie, ones, and McCool. Refreshments were provided by the ladies, and .Messrs. Meredith a nd Waswo supplied the music. Dancin" was kejit up till daylight. Mr. P. J. liulihau's metalling contract on the Pimiwhakau road is just finished. This will mean a lot to the settlers in the coming winter.
