TARANAKI GUARDS.
ANNUAL MKETIXG. A general meeting of the above corps was held at the company's orderly room on Tuesday evening. About thirty members attended. Captain C. T. Mills presided. The business of the meeting was to appoint a second Lieutenant, vice Lieut. Messenger, who had resigned. Be-, ference was made to the excellent services rendered by Lieut. Messenger during hi* association with the corps. Col.Sergeant Beadle was appointed to lill the ollice, and in a short speech thanked the corps for the compliment paid him. The annual meeting of the company was then held. Captain .Mills occupied the chair. Minutes of last annual meeting were read end confirmed. The balance-sheet showed a credit ol .CM us. The chairman stated he was pleased that the financial position of the company had greatly improved during the year. The corps had a full strength membership, and would probably capitate as such. This was most satisfactory. He expressed regret that some of the members did not attend drill over regularly, and eulogised the regular attendants. He trusted that there would be better parades this year. Fines would for the future be inflicted on non-at-tenders. The speaker lefcrrc-d to the retirement of Lieut. Messenger, stating that that oflicer would be much missed. It was unanimously resolved that Lieut. Messenger be made a life-member of the Taranaki (luards. Sergl. llartnell was promoted to the position of Color-Sergeant. The following committees were appointed:— General Committee: Corp. Lewis, Sergeants OlHrer, llartnell, GviUUhs, Privates Blanchard, Jones, and Bennett. Shooting Committee: Col.-Sergt. llartnell, Sergeant Evans, Privates P. (!. MeKwan, Bennett, Martin, liill, Blanchard, and Ollivev. Finance Committee: Captain Mills and Sergeant Grilliths. Auditor: Sergeant Crifliths. Sccretaiy: Lieut. Bcou (re-elected), itccruiting Committee: C«»l.-Sergeant Hartnell, Sergeant Kvans, nnd Corporal Arnold. Social Committee: Serjeant Gvidilhs, Corporals Arnold and Howell, Privates Blanchtrd, lJe la Have. Beimelt. and M. Fowler. Resolved--"That the secretary. Quar-ter-master, and Jlange Warden each receive. C-'l 15s in recognition of services rendered.. The secretary of last season's shooting committee read the report congratulating the corps en (he successful operations during the year. Nine matches h'td been fired, six of which were won, two lost, and one unfinished, in class firing more interest had been shown than formerly. .It was revived to tender Lieut. Messenger a social evening, and present him with an illuminated address.
Lieut. Boon and Col.-Sergeant HartJiell were appointed a committee to have the orderly room put into repair and improved.
