"Dr." St. John Long, who was one of tho earliest vendors of quack cure-alls U> make a really large fortune, died intestate in 1834; but his widow distributed very large sums in charity during her life, and bequeathed at her death the greater portion of the residue of her wealth to various refuges and aims-houses.
