A NEW THEURV. Per Puss A-sociatuei, Wellington, March 5. Speaking during the cour-e of a lecture in aid of the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society, Dr. T. F. Macdonald referred to a disease that he had proved to his entire satisfaction to be the cause of criminal'ty in those it attacked. The scientific name of tile disease was, he said, "ankylostomiasis," its English name the l eartheating" disease. It was caused by a small internal leech-like worm, which sucked the blood from the intestinal Avails, (treat weakness followed the ravages of i the parasites, for they existed in millions. The diseaso, wa? peculiar in I that physical, mental and moral men !dicd together under its attack. Children who were victims of it became . highly susceptible to influences which caused them to become criminals, to lie, to steal, and to develop habits of solitary and sexual veins. These tendencies were powerful enough in the comparative strong, but- their power for evil was increased a tliousand-fold when manifesting themselves in physical wrecks.
