(From Our Own Coi'crspoiidoiits.) TOKO. At Toko on Friday night there was a liu-ge gathering at tin; social arranged as a compliment to Mt "Jock'-' Taylor and Jlrs Taylor, wlio are leaving almost immediately to take up their residence at Pungarehu. Mr Taylor liad teen for ten years a resident of Toko, and always a prominent, settler, particularly in school matters, having been chairman of the local school committee for some years. He is well-known throughout, the whole district, and for some time sat as a member of Ilie Tarauaki Education Hoard. Tile settlers contributed liberally ;to the fund foil the purpose of making a presentation, which should in a sinuH measure indicate 1 ln.ii- appreciation of his civic mid social value, and as an expression of their good wishes towards him and his in their new sphere. Jlr J. B. Hine made the presentation, which took 'the shape of a gold chain and a silver w'atch to Mrs Taylor, and a silver tea and coJl'ee service to Mrs Taylor. In making the presentation Mr lline said he had known the recipients for ten years, and knew the loss which the district would sustain by their departure, foil they had aJwal.vs lent a helping] hand in everything. "Jock" had been a prominent figure ill the progress of the dairying industry in the district, particularly in the early days when llio settlers acquired the Crown t>uiry Co.'s business there. Mr W. L. Kennedy followed, mentioning that, though ho and Jlr Taylor had been keenly opjioscd in school matters they had agreed to bury the hatchet and had got on very well together; un;d he was conscious of the great loss which Toko would sustain by Mr Taylor's departure. He wished them all happiness in their new home. Jlr Taylor returned thanks in one of his humorous speeches. It was a characteristic of Scot-men that they could fight well, but couldn't stand being pat ted on the back. This was the lirst he had ever been "bested" in Toko and they had "completely broken Slim up" by the kindness shown and the good wishes expressed towards himself and his wife, for whom lie returned the warmest thanks,
