RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD

Per Press Association. Dunedin, March 22. The sitting of .the iiaiway Appeal, Board was continued this morning, when D. Wallace, goods agent at Dunedin, appealed against liis position on* the, elassilication list. When the Midrailway was taken over by the/ Government in 1805, Mr Wallace, who had acted as manager for the company, was appointed goods agent at Duucdiii, which position lie lias since held. The only witness called was ;Mr Grant, Trallic Superintendent at Dunedin, who said lie could not speak too highly of the maimer in which appellant did; his work. At the same time, witness would recommend Mr Armstrong, chief clerk in the Traffic Manager's ollice in Wellington, for promotion in preference to appellant, owing lo the former having a iarger expeijence. An ap- 1 peal by Mr 0. B. Mctlardy, machinist at Hillside workshops, against his dismissal for drunkenness was heard this afternoon. The offence, which was committed outside of working hours, was admitted, but lit was contended jthafj the punishment was too severe, as the incident which levj to appellant's dismissal constituted the only lapse of the kind on his part. Evidence was given by the manager and foremen of various departments at Hillside, and the constable who arrested; appellant on the charge of drunkenness. The manager and foremen testiiied that appellant was punctual and attentive to his work, and they had never seen him showing any signs of drinking. The Board reserved decision in each casc«
