£600,000 MORAL VICTORY.

FOBT.VXE ACQUIRED BY TOTAL ABSTINENCE. NEW YOfiK, January 7. Kugeno Anderson, of Katonah, about thirty miles noith of this city, lias just acquired a fortune of £600,000 by the exerxase of telf-restraint. Anderson's father died several years ago, le?v>ng his estate so tied that the trustees had considerable discretion in administering it. They refused tlo transfer it to the heir on tho ground that he was an inebriate -who could not be trust ed to manage the property. Anderson promised to reform, and the trustees told hint to show his earnestness by remaining sober for a year. He undertook the task and failed. He kept away from' drink for several months, but yielded then, and when he had sobered had to begin again. Tho trustees and his friends encouraged him, and he tried only to fail again. At last, on September 1 of last year, he completed a year of total abstinence. This would havo satisfied the trustees, but it did ntot satisfy Anderson. He insisted on further proof of his own will power, and it was not till he had been sober sixteen months that ho demanded his property. It is now being transferred to him.
