Also started: Lower Iluft, Spitt, Rangiora, Dunedin, Westport, Napier, 110Mtika, Masterton, and Petone. Gore and Ashburton having tied for third and fourth places, ran olf, (ion? winning in 40 -o-sev- (a record for the colony), Ashburton repeating its performance, 47 2-sscc. Ladder Race (one man). First prize, .C 8; second, .Hi; third, .t!4; fourth, C2. Xapier (A. Peterson), 7 4-ssec .... 1 Greymoulh (H. Blockage), Bsec .. .. 2 Dunedin City (A. Duncan), fisee .... 3 Hokitika (R. i'oss). 8 l-ssec .. .. I There were a large number of competitors in this event, one tie for second and third places, and five for fourth.
