Iline, jun., and 15. Maxwell. Til 10 CJItCCS SITE. Mr. -1. W. West wrote concerning the inconvenience suffered by him oil account of Wirth's circus and the buckjumpers having occupied iho sections temporarily leased by him. He was actually U2 hard cash out of pocket, besides the cost of repairing broken fences, removing broken bottles, and other refuse. Me asked for sole control of the sections until they were required by the Board for building purposes, and offered ,CI a month as rent. Mr. Connett said he would oppose granting anything of the kind, for the proposed rent was only -Cl2 a year, and the rent from the shows mentioned had been Clt).- He did not want to be hard on Mr. West, but the Hoard could not afford to be too liberal, and he suggested tlmt the tenant should be allowed CI for cleaning up and repairs after each circus. This course was adopted. ! TIMIiKIi CONTRACT. .Messrs. Samuel Brown and Co. on behalf of .Mr. Flannery, contractor for supply of timber for wharf extension, wrote that the timber was ready for shipment, hut it was practically impossible to get a vessel to load for New Plymouth. They asked for information comeming the charges to land at Waitara, expenses in railage, etc.. in getting it to Xew Plymouth, and whether the Hoard would meet Mr. Fleming in any of ihe expense incurred in landing at a it ara. The information will be sent. Mo further action was taken. TOWAIiK. .Messrs. A. Hntrick and C'o.. of Wai. | gaiiui. asked if the Board had any vc*- ' sel f;.r towing a sailing vessel in or out of Xew Plymouth, and if ballast suitable for road metal were procurable. TIIK TPAXSIIIPM KXT SI1K1). hi regard to the charges on transhipment u'oods between ships and the proposed shed at Moturoa, the Cem-ril Manager of Railways wrote that ne could not sec his way to make any redtution ivi the tariff charges of three shillings a ton. Mr. Connett said that he had interviewed the stalionmaster at Xew Piv-

month, wlr was of opinion that the thice shillings covered both inward and outward handlings. This made tlie eharge ox) each handling Is (Id per ton, ms in the case of handling the produce from the freezing works. The charge -vr.•• heavy, very heavy, but even this would be preferable to the present h-'.ivy and prohibitive charges. Now it was necessary to bring the goods into New Plymouth at a cost of per ten, place it in store/ and then rail it out to (he wharf again at a further cost of •Is per ton. .Mr. .Maxwell asked if it would be possible to avoid this charge by transferring the goods direct from the ship's hold to the shed. Mr. King replied that until the Board had a good bucket dredge to dredge o .t a new berth and maintain it the vessels would not be able to lie close to I he shed in its proposed site. Mr. McLean suggested tlie possibility , <>! having the charge reduced to l's a ton. Mr. King: Yes, two shilling* a ton is a fair thing. Mr. (,'onnctt said he was going to Wellington in a few days, and he would mrlcavor to obtain a reduction if so inducted bv the Board. Mr. Ma Jewell said lie would lie gh I to move in thai direction, and mentioned that he knew of a firm in Wellington who paid only a shilling a ton to have good.-, transhipped ia lorries from Queen's Wharf and stores in their shed-..
