Of curious interest is a lage and beautiful wreath made as a tribute of honor to the memory of the late Captain Mutton, curator of the Canterbury .Museum, now on view in a glass case in the Exhibition. The wreath was made by Mr 11. J. and .Miss Stone, joD WojodenJ,, ami it occupied them continuously for twelve months, it is composed entirely of Xew Zealand llax fibre and the plumage of New Zealand native birds. Tile feathers of 2(i varieties of birds were used, several of them being exfinef. The Government permitted Mr and Miss Stone to lake a feather off some of the b'rds i'i;om public collections. The workmanship of the wreath is extremely delicate and elaborate, feathers beiu'g combined to form many graceful and beautifully colored flowers. A cheap) excursion for visitors to tin: Exhibit : on from Invercargill, Gore, and Waimea Plains bought 330 excursionists today. It is notable that with all Ihe heavy Exhibition traffic of the p.ist few months there has not been a single accident. The Hawke's Bay Maoris, whose performances at the pah have been of such a high order of merit, left for their homes to-day. Mr Hamilton is trying to arrange parties of Maori school children to visit the pah. The General Manager of the Exhibition lias received a letter from Major \V. S. Austin, officer commanding the Grey public schools cadet battalion, stating that the battalion keenly appreciated lu» many kindnesses on their behalf. A very large number of entries have been received for the pet show on Friday altcrirooii and evening iu the grounds of "Wonderland." The entries range from the smart hansom cab aud horse to Ithe dimunitive hedgehog. A number of performing animals have also entered, and will be put through some novejl and remarkably tricks. Extensive preparations have been made by the "Wonderland" authorities to suitably display the exhibits. Entries for the the competition for essays on "kindness to animals" will be accepted -up to \Vedneda.y night. Numerous entries for the dahlia and fruit shows in tho main corridor of the Exhibition next Wednesday and Thursday have been reached. Up to the present, the exhibits of fruit will be a record. The dinner table decorations are more in number than at previous shows and displays for exhibition only exceed those at other shows held in the Exhibition.
