ARMY MEAT CONTRACTS
London, March 1. Jlr HoMeirtson, Financial Secretary to the Admiralty, in reply to Mr Honmka Heaton regarding fresh meat used by the Navy, said there were no Admiralty records showing tins proportion purchased from thee olonies.
The Kight Hon. R. li. Haldane (Secretary for War) gave a similar reply regarding the frozen meat used by the army. He said there were no statistics regarding the sources of supply of fresh meat used.
In reply to Mr Roland Hunt, Mr Haldane stated that in regard to preserved meat, the colonies were invited to tender to meet every demand, but owing to dought and shortness of* stocks colonial Arms were not always able to quote for delivery, and mm beaten in many cases by the pricc.w^

It is officially stated in reliable quarters that New Zealand is not likely to participate in any army contracts for the supply of tinned meats for Imperial troops. It is thought the available supply of tinned meats is too small to come up to the minimum requirements of the War Office,
