TRENTHAM RIFLE MEETING.

Thbntium, February 2! The Rifle Association's Meeting opens t--morrow morning under most favourable auspices. The arrangements on the ground have never boen so oomplece, and everything is in first-class order. Since last meeting, the grounds have been cleared of 'stumps and boulders, and the shooters' mounds have been roudered dry and comfortable. Tlio number of targets has been increased to 75, and with this number it ij expected the meeting- will bo ablo to concludo this day week without omitting any event on the programme, and without unduly taxing riflemen, Considering that the Exhibition meeting dobarrod a great number of rifle- iS
m«n from visiting Trentham as they would otherwise have done, the attendance may be considered highly satis, factory. The entries so far number about 380, and it is expoctod that fully -100 competitors will take part in the meeting. A considerable number of the rille " cracks" of the colony are on the ground, including King, Irvine, Ballanger Bros, liyde, and Randall, and a really first-class meeting is antipaled. The weather at the time of writing has every appearance oi: being tine for the opening. The championship matches will be started first thing in the morning, commencing with the Auckland and Wellington matches. Colonel Collins is in charge 85 usual, and has spared no trouble to secure most complete arrangements. -■»*v9»ggß
