Perth, Febnuiry 27.

During the hearing of a Chinese gambling case, a witness said he was afraid to give evidence, because other Chinamen would kill him. He stated a society had been formed in Perth by 100 Chinese, who picked ten of their number to kill any Chinaman giving evidence in gambling cases. The ten men received fifteen shillings a week, and in the event of any of them meeting death while carrying out the society's behests, £3OO was to be sent to their widows and children. 1/ they received any injury they were to be paid 30s weekly and provided with medical expenses.
