Jlr Morrison moved and Mr Moiikliouso seconded an amendment that the Hoard provide the new out ollice for the Salisbury-road residence.—Negatived by 5 to 8, ami the report was adopted.
TAHIICT SCHOOL SITU. The special committee set up to deal with the matter of enlarging the Tariki school ground reported that Jlr Davidson had been interviewed. He was quite unwilling to lease any pori.on 'of the reserve, but was prepared io sell the goodwill of three aero for

T/ic Tariki School Committee was averse to purchasing tho goodwill, but was desirous of acquiring tho freehold if it could be obtained, and desired to know whi'iher :t would be possible to arrange to purchase tho freehold of three acre-, a matter on which 'the special committee made 110 recommendation. —Heceived. Jhe Truant inspector reported on tho work of the year, mentioning Ihe improved attendance at the Stale and Convent schools, and that notices had been sent to private schools to comply with the iiducal ion Act and get certificates of exemption. He had is.-ued over 200 linai notices, and put tin- law in motion to a greater extent than in the previous eynr, .£0 14s having been collected in linos. Touching 'the parents' pockets had a tendency, in ine inspector's opinion, "to make I hem wake up to their duties to their children."
Mr Morton asked if there were any returns showing how many schools were visited, and when the v'is.ts were made.

Inspector was expected to visit eacli school at lea ft once a quarter, and that teachers were very lax in send.ng in attendance returns. Mr Adlam thought the Board should evolve some scheme of compelling the leachers to give greater attention to Ibis matter. Mi' Trimble moved that tiie report be 'received, and "that the Inspector be requested to carry out his duties more strictly in the future." .Seconded by Mr Morton. Mr Morison moved an amendment that the latter portion of the motion be deleted, and the words substituted "that he be requested to inform the Board which schools faii to send in regular returns." Mr Adlam moved that the report be received, and that the Inspector Ih l requested to furnish a quarterly report. 111 accordance with tho, agreement. Mr Morton though the Board should insist 011 the teachers' irregular attendance returns being sent in. Mr Adlam's proposition was tarried, the others lapsing, and the teachers will be instucted to send in ill' ret'in.s regularly, without fail.
