IMMIGRATION OF CONTINENTAL LABOR
QUEENSLAND PROPOSALS. Brisbane, February 2<>. The Government has arranged with the Orient Company to bring out about 200 immigrants ipeiil fortnight, starting in May. Those with a capital of £SO will receive concessions in passage money of £5 each. Agricultural laborers anil their families will he brought out free. Cane-growers and farmers applying for laborers will have to pay the Labor Bureau £5 apiece. As 'this bring? the men within the scope oif contract labor, correspondence is passing between the Government and Mr Deakin, Federal Premier, on the point. The latter; in a guarded reply, hoped to meet the wishes of Queensland. A LABOR PROTEST. Melbourne, February 20. Five Labor members of the Federal Parliament waited on Mr Deakin and protected against nify more jperniitsj for European laborers for Queensland. There was plenty of white labor now available. Mr Deakin replied that he would not issue any more permits till lie saw how Mr Kidstons immigration scheme progreyed.
