The tendency (if the mutton market 'seems to lie to decline. Current quotation,!:—Canterbury 4'/ 2 d to 4d, and 'North Island 4%d and 3%d per lb for light and heavy weights rc.pectivoly.
The lamb market is weak. Stocks, on hand arc heavy and widely distributed amount ngent*, who are pushing sale*. A further drop in prices imminent. Australian lamb is or very mixed quality. New Zealand is quoted at ;i%d lo 5d and Australian 4 ; ;4d to 4d per lb. The .beetf market is quiet, though there i* better demand. Xew Zenlami hindquarters are quoted at 3%d and fores a" 1 pi-r lb. The butter market is very depressed Fair demand continues, owing to ve ; ! puris concerning a dry sea-on and in anticipation oi' .small supplies eoininy i'urward fnr.n New Zealand. The hemp market i.s quiet, with 'little i business* bul a i*ood feeling prevails. There has been a decline, 'owing to heavy arrivals. Good fair 'grade on spot is worth and fair current Manilla £4O. The wool market- is firm. NEWTON KING'S REPORT ON POHUKURA SHEEP PiUtE.
Sheep.—At Pohukura 011 Monday 1 held a .Sheep Fair at Jlessrs Monrad Bros.' yards (late Riddeli"s). Owinf; to the rough weather of the prececdini; day all sheep entered did not come forward. However, there was a nice yarding of about 3000 head, and there was a very largo attendance from all parts of the district. Bidding from start to. finish was brisk, and everything soid at the hummer or privately at very satisfactory prices. Two-tooth ewes, 14s llld to 17 !)d; full-mouth do., lis lOd to 10s 8d; two-tooth wethers. 12s (Id to 15s; shorn lambs, 8s 9d to 10s 3d; ranis, 30s to £4 12s Gd.
