DESPERATE DUEL.
FIERCE FIGHT ABOUT A LADY. A swonl duel which involv-d a ( parture from the ordinary combat ol this class, inasmuch as it'was attended by bloodshed, has been fought in at the Big Wheel between a Lieutenant fluillurd and M. Jean Gungi, a prominent figure in Paris society.
Private reasons arc assigned as the cause of the encounter, but the lady'sname did not transpire. Both men being expert fencers, the fight was very fierce throughout. In the first round the lientenant broke his sword as he was/ about to transfix his opponent. In the second, 11. Gungi tool; the offensive and wounded his adversary twice in rapid succession in the righforearm.
Tlie wounds bled so profusely that the injured man was unable to retain hold of his weapon, and under the circumstances the combat was declared at an end.
The adversaries, however, refused to exchange the customary embrace, and left the ground uureconciled.
