VOLUNTEER ACCIDENTALLY SHOT.

Per Press Association. Auckland, February 21. At the camp of the No. 8 Garrison Artillery Volunteers at Fort Cantley Takapuna, tliis aftcrnnon, John Bcrgiu, a member of the corps, shot himself accidentally. At 4 o'clock Bergin went into his tent, Eyidentally with the object of cleaning his rifle, and a few minutes jfterwards a shot was heard, aud on Sergeant-Major Taylor entering, he found the man tying dead, tho bullet having entered tho man's stomach and traversing upwards, came out through the back of the neck. Evidently Bergin had overlooked the fact that the weapon was loaded, as there is no suggestion of suicide. Deceased was 25 years of age, single, and a resident of Arch Hill, Auckland.
