Per Press Association. AiN" UNKNOWN'S SUICIDE. Per Press Association. Ashburlon, February IS. The body of a man, name unknown, was lound to-day in the Rakaia saleyards, shot through the head with a riile. The body had evidently lain there for some time, being much decomposed.
TRAMCAR FATALITY.
Christchurch, February 19.
An inquest concerning the death of Muriel Vera Marks, a girl of 14, who died as the result of injuries sustained foil a moving tramcar on the Papanuiroad yesterday afternoon, was held to-day. Evidence was given that the child had intended to get out at the St. Albau's-lane stopping place, but the car stopped at a loop a short distance from the lane to allow a down ear to pass, and did not stop again at the | lane, passengers for that stopping place having alighted at the loop. When the car reached the lane, the girl jumped off and struck her head violently against one of the poles, and sustained concussion of tho brain, t'l-oin which she died twenty minutes after. ■
George limylan Miller, conductor of the car. said he knew nothing of the accident until one of the Inspectors questioned him about it an hour ami u-lialf afterwards. The car did not stop at the lane if they slopped at the loop.
'Hie jury returned n verdict of accidental death, and recommended that a guard should be placed along the whole length of the cars, including tlie rear seats, such as that occupied by tho deceased just prior to her death; also that all ears should stop at the St. Albans-lane stopping place.
SAWMILL FATALITY.'
Gisborne, February 10. In connection with the death ot Charles Ilarwood, resulting from injuries at a sawmill at Tc Araroa, ibe verdict was that death was accidental, 'no blame being attachable to anyone, excepting deceased himself, for working at the particular saw without the knowledge of his (coinpanionsj eially after" he had been cautioned.
Cimisrarußcn, February Ml. The constable at Coaigate reported to-day that a young man named Rosevear has been drowned in lake at Loekwood.
The decomposed and unrecognisable body or a man is reported by Constable O'Grady to have been found in the plantation at Sakaia this moruing. The ease is apparently one of suicide, as part of the head is missing, and a rifle was found lying by the'side of the body.
Ivy Warner, the young woman who was taken to the hospital from bouthbrtdgo on Sunday with from a sevoro wound m the throat, self-inflicted, still lies in a dangerous condition.
A thrce-yeai'-old child named Clarice Baxter was accidentally drowned at Soulhbridge to-day
