Through -the medium of Mr G. T.l London, Mayor of Petoue, the stuughlermen on strike at tlie Gear Company's works at Petono decided to resume work at 8 o'clock this morning, at 23s per hundred. The men at the Wellington Meat Co.'s work at Ngahaurangu will conI sider the matter to-day.

Mr Waymouth, managing director of the company, wired to the Minister for Labor on the subject, and Mr Millar replied regretting ho could do no I more than bring the men who went out before (lie court, and that instructions had been given to that effect.

A reporter who made enquiries today at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Co.'s olliee was informed that the slaughtermen's strike is not likely to extend to the Belfast hands, who are members of the Union, and fully cognisant of what such a stop would mean. The Pareora strikers arc casual workers and non-unionists. At the office of tho Christchurch Meat Co. it was ascertained that there had been no further development in the slaughtermen's troubles so far as Canterbury was concerned. As far as can bo learned, the employocs at Islington and Smithlield are not feeling any dissatisfaction,
PAREORA MEN RESUME WORK.
TiMABi;, February 18. Tho strike at Purcora has broken down. The butchers resumed work this morning with a scratch crew of assistants, and during the day consideration of an offer by the managing director and the persuasion of Mr Johns, secretary of the union, led the men to agree to resume work to-morrow. The offer is that the if men turn to at once at tho present rate of 10} d an hour, the award shall be reconsidered, and if the rate is increased .they shall receive the difference as back pay from date. The butchers desije to say that their action in refusing to work by sections should not be construed as a I strike
CONFERENCE WITH MINISTER OF LABOR.
Wellington, February 18,
At a meeting of the directors of tho Wellington Meat Export Co. to-day, it was decided to interview the Minister tor Labor this afternoon, and to ascertain whether tho Government proposed to do anything to relieve the position. A suggestion that the Government should endeavor to get butchers to tako the place of those men who have left the company's Ngahauranga works was brought under the Minister's notico. The directors of the company wero supported by various employers' associa-' tions in the city. Proceedings were ' not open to the Press, but is reported that the Minister promised to bring before Cabinet the suggestion that the Government should endeavor to iind sufficient slaughtermen to allow the company to proceed with its export business,
