PROBABLY SHORT OF PROVISIONS SUGGESTED DESPATCH OF A FAST STEAMER. Sydney, February 14. The captain of the Catherin.' fears that eleven men left at the C'mzct Island are badly off for stores. Siores were left at the island in 180S, hut the nut was blown down and the goods
scattered on the beach, tlm food be coming uneatable. The men lived on seals, their only firewood being what they eonld gel from the wreckage ot the vessel. They had been a month on the Island before the captain and two men sailed to try and reach Australia. The vessel went to pieces during a hurricane. Tne crew, in two boats, were caught by huge waves and hurled ashore. The captain sug gests that a fast steamer should be sent from the (.'ape. It. could reach the Island in nine days.
