HASTINGS RAM FAIR
Per Press Association. Naimki!, January 31. The annual ram fair was held at Hastings to-day. The number of rams was the largest ever offered, but stud rams were comparatively few, the number of these showing a great falling off from former years. Flock rams, however, came forward in very large numbers. Practically only North Island breeders were represented, nearly all the Southland sheep which were on the ground having been sent mby other sellers. There was a good demand for Liucolns and Koniney Marsh, especially the former, and aood prices were realised tor first-class animals. Stud Lincolns went up to 50 guineas, that price being paid for a ram bed by Air Wybourne, of Whonuakura ; I',), 40 and 30 guineas were paid for rams bred by .Mr W. Perry. Masterton, and 41. and 32 guineas for sheep bred by Mr W. ltaynor, Masterton. Flock Lincolns went up to 10-1 guineas, this price being obtained for sheep bred by J. Hastings. Stud Komncy easily topped the sale, the record price of 112 guineas being paid for a ram bred by Mr B. J. Uiddiford, Orougorongo, Hull. Other sheep by the same breeder brought 33, 28, and 20 guineas. For Hook liomnoys, Mr Uiddiford also secured the highest prices, 7.-J and 8J guineas being the top figures. A few flock English Leicesters sold at 4%gns. For Hock ilorder Leicesters, the top price wan figns for a sheep bred by Mr J. L. Hughes, of Waverley. A Hock of Southdowns made (i'/.gns, which price was paid for sheep bred by Mr G. A. Hodes, Fllesmere, Canterbury, and 414 gas was liie top price for Shropshire*, Mr James John's sheep reaching that figure, and was paid for some of Mr James Little's Corriedales.
