The Auckland (Irehestral Society gave their final concert successfully last evening before an enthu-ins tie audience. ; The monster nthlelie sports meeting under the control of the New Zealand Athletic Union was commenced before a large attendance on the sports ground to-day. Competitors from all | parts of the colony were present, and the events were very closely coira's'ceil. Withtlie pipe contests, running events and 'other athletic contests taking place simultaneously, the public had plenty to retain their interest. The pipe hands, playing, marched (o the ground from the Square and were welcomed at the Inhibition bv Mr Woods, president of the Athletic Vninn. C'ale' ■ lonian sports items were a main feature of the gathering, which will be concluded on Saturday. Tiie orchestra gave' a farewell con cert this afternoon before leaving on a visit lo Wellington, and received a good reception. International toboggan races and a repetition of the exciting house on lire act attracted a large crowd to-night lo "Wonderland." Mr Munro had vetoed the latteir performance 'on the seme of its danger to the chief actors, and some surprise was occasioned among tire public when it was inlimat ed that the veto had been withdrawn in view of the strong precautions to be taken for the safety of human limbs.
