The Board approved the proposal lo include llawcra and Klthain cadets, and Slajor Dempsey will be nsk-d to make ail arrangements for the boys. WEST END SCHOOL. The Kdueation Department wrola Hint it was unable at present to accede to the request for a grant for additions and alterations to the West Knd school. The chairman said that the great expansion of the school necessitated considerable 'enlargement. The Chief Inspector, in answer lo Ihe chairman, said that two additional teachers had recently been appointed lo the school, and' there was no room for tiieni to teach, and the increased stall' and attendance necessitated considerable increase of accommodation. The school should be put on such a footing that additions could be made from time to time to keep pace with the growing requirements. The front room of the present school was unsuitable for teaching on accouiu, of the lighting and because il was too Jo';iig. The proposal was to make this into two teachers' rooms. Tiiere was a small room now which it was proposed to absorb in re-modelling the buildings, and an additional class room was to be built. lie (bought (he mailer should be urgently pressed, the Department paying for the additions and the Hoard for (he alterations.

Messrs .Tiimieson and Laurence, re presenting the Tariki school commit tee, waited upon the Board in eonneetion with the enlargement of the .school site. Mr Janiicson thought that probably I here was a clause in Mr Davidson's lease; givinfg the Commissioners 'the right 'to take the laud for school pur poses. Mr Davidson had ollVrcd to lease the three acres to the committee, at a rental of £1 per acre per annum.
Mr Fa till moved that the Board communicate with Mr Davidson with a view to leasing three acres of land from Mr Davidson for enlargement of the ground.
llr Adlani thought the committee should louse the land themselves, as he umlerstood the eoinmiltee, would derive revenue from leasing the ground to sports chilis and so forth. Sir Jamicsun said the eonnniitoe had ]io idea of milking a charge for the use of the. ground. Mr Trimble thought the Hoard would have to secure the lea.-e, as tlie committee had no legal slum*. ill- Monkhouse said u,,. ground must he enlarged if the children were to play the two most manly games football and cricket. Air Kennedy said the old sports ground, now sought to be acquired was the only ground 'there was for a school playground. I'n answer to Mr Morton, Mr Jamieson said the committee was prep-, red to raise money to pay for the new lease and survey expenses. Mr Morison seconded, and the motion was carried.
