AN OPEN LETTER
TO THE GAY SPIRITS OF A r OGKI/rOWN, Gentlemen,—You had some fun on Monday night when you smashed up that vulgar teetotal placard. Of course the statements there made arc not palatable to (hose who are inspired by alcoholic spirits, and if no better argument can be used than just pulling down the notice board—well! you must do the best you can ! Would it not, however, be wiser, aid better fun m the end, to look into the matter and see whether there is any truth in all these anti-liquor statements. It would be easy then to crush these fanatics in their own fashion—hard fa;ts and seicniilic evidence. Well, you had your fun. But I just ask was' it exactly gentlemanly l J For I know you consider yourselfs young gentlemen and as such I address you: then too was it a scholarly way of opposing a silly fa-1? For I hope you will be finished scholars souc day. dust think of this please. In the last place please take this letter as if it were addressed to you personally, for there were eyes oa you that night, just after the motor car passed, that you knew not of, and your identity win not so well concealed asyoit imagined and intended.
