DETECTIVE MURDERS GIRL.

The detective instinct triumphed today over a man's love of life, and incidentally the Italian police lost one of its most promising young detectives. A few months ago the body of a young peasant girl, Doinenien Yiueetli, was found terribly mutilated near the cottage in which she lived with her parents, in the village of Viggiauo. The case was given to (liovanui Cantiri. a young detective who iiad already distinguished himself by unravelling several intricate crimes* and lie devoted himself In it. Yesterday lie entered the poilco force at Viggiauo, and informed his superiors that inhad found the murderer. lie proceeded to reconsfiiiit" the ciiiue, and explained how the murderer had met the girl behind a hut in a field and demanded that sue marry him. The girl refused and ran away, and the man pursued her and struck her on the head with a stick. Cantiri tuen described bow the man buried ihe bloodstained stick, and how he bad found it. lie also produced a blood-slair.ed coat, which hsaid the murderer had worn. lie pointed out linger marks on the. slid;, and then pressing his lingers in some wax pointed out that the print:, wei-.-identical with those on the instrument witii which the car: was killed. He put (Hi ihe coat, which fitted him perfectly, and then declared: "I lolled Dominica Vincetli because she i-fuscd la marry inc." Then, before his astonished super! ovs could interfere, he, drew his revul ver and shot himself.
